Day 1- Welcome to UMSU & Al-Amjad

August 6, 2018 - We started early morning, one of our buddies (Gita) fetch us in our dormitory and come with us to eat breakfast. Afterwards we walk to the campus, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara. In there, we are able to meet the admins, staffs and also our two other buddies (Mayang and Willy).

Our buddies together with Ms. Yayuk and Dr. Eka gave us a University (UMSU) tour as a welcome for us. We were able to go in different faculties and offices. All the people in each faculty and office we've been through are very warm and welcoming. We also went to their library which they say we can use until 9pm. (Slide pictures below, First photo shows the university logo). In the same day, we also had a opportunity to have a short introduction and meeting with the respective admins/officials of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara.

In the afternoon, we are to go in the lab school. We are also surprised to be welcomed by the students with their tradition called "tari persembahan melayu". We are to introduce ourselves with the grade 7 and 8 students. On the later part, we had a private introduction and meeting with the officials and admins of the school. Cultural Practice

The cultural practice of offering food or something to eat or drink to their guests are very much commendable. I'm very much surprised to the welcome ceremony that Al-Amjad prepared for us, the tradition they call tari persembahan melayu. It is my first time to see this kind of welcoming and I'm very much impressed on how good they treat us here. I am very much grateful to the opportunity, I hope I could give back all the favors they are giving us by giving my best in teaching.
